4 ways a wine fridge ends up not fitting
Why doesn’t my 24-inch wine fridge fit a 24-inch space?
Many built-in wine refrigerators are sold as “24-inch,” but the maker’s install guide often asks for a slightly bigger space, such as 24.05 inches wide, so the door and sides can clear the cabinets. A space that is exactly 24 inches can be too tight. We compare your space against the size each maker says to leave, not the size on the box.
Can I put a freestanding wine cooler under a counter?
Usually not. Many lower-priced wine coolers let heat out the back or sides and need open air around them. Boxed into a cabinet, they can run hot and stop cooling well. An under-counter wine cooler made to be built in lets heat out the front, and we only list those as a fit.
How much height does an under-counter wine fridge need?
Most built-in wine fridges need about 34 to 35 inches from the floor to the underside of the countertop, and most have feet that adjust a little. New tile or hardwood laid after the cabinets went in takes height away, so measure from the floor that’s there now.
Which side should the wine fridge door open on?
Pick the side that won’t bump into a dishwasher, wall or island when the door swings open. Some doors can be switched to open on either side, some must be ordered left or right, and some swing past 90 degrees. Each fridge page shows what the maker says.
